Series 1 Announcement & NYCC Special Info

Series 1 is officially Sold Out. We want to thank all of our supporters who helped make The Art Hustle possible, including our manufacturing partner SideKick Media, all of the talented contributing individuals who graced us with their images and art for the inaugural set, and everyone who waited patiently while we got it all together to put out there.

And we are very happy to have the opportunity to once again…get it on! The Series 2 Roster is set, and the process has begun. We will be making future announcements regarding Series 2, so stay tuned.

While Boxes have sold out through The Art Hustle’s site, there are still folks out there who have them available for purchase through their galleries, stores and websites.

And, there’s lots of trading going on out there, so if you’re still looking for certain cards, don’t give up!

Card of the Week

1977 Topps Star Wars Sticker Card
A behind-the-scenes image of a very focussed George Lucas tending to Greedo. Love the straw coming out of Greedo’s mouth, presumably enabling the costumed actor to get some ventilation or a drink between takes. Great shot, great colors.

1967 Wacky Packages Die Cut Cards
The ’67 Die Cuts were the first incarnation of the Wacky Package Series. Made to be punched out of the cards, licked and stuck all over the place.
These two cards are very rare because they were pulled after a threatened lawsuit by Nabisco.

Card of the Week

1916 Zeenut Candy Card, Jimmy Claxton, Oakland Oaks
A gorgeous card, and a remarkable one considering Jimmy Claxton broke the color barrier for only two games in the Pacific Coast League in 1916. The Zeenut Candy Co just happened to have a photographer at one of the games (a double header that day). Claxton was released the next day when it was discovered that he was African American, and not the assumed Native American. Zeenut produced and released the card. This was 31 years before Jackie Robinson played his first game for the Brooklyn Dodgers.

Card of the Week

1960’s Japanese Gum Card
(Possibly LiLi brand)
Photo shown isn’t life-size. At its true size, only 9/10″ x 1  3/4″, this little card packs a graphically intense punch.
