Card of the Week

1916 Zeenut Candy Card, Jimmy Claxton, Oakland Oaks
A gorgeous card, and a remarkable one considering Jimmy Claxton broke the color barrier for only two games in the Pacific Coast League in 1916. The Zeenut Candy Co just happened to have a photographer at one of the games (a double header that day). Claxton was released the next day when it was discovered that he was African American, and not the assumed Native American. Zeenut produced and released the card. This was 31 years before Jackie Robinson played his first game for the Brooklyn Dodgers.
